  1. Uldis Arajs made us get up at the crack of dawn on new year’s day each year to hike to the top of Mt. Geoffrey, admire the new year so far, then hike down again to have the most scrumptious venison stew, Latvian bean salad, and plenty of hilarity and fluids. His obituary was in the Vancouver Sun in 2008. We think of him, and miss his kind humor. You caught a great shot of him, Bob.

  2. i think it’s spelled aldis, from the latvian. i fondly remember
    sunday breakfast parties where the gracious host provided
    pickled herring, washed down with slivovitz straight from
    the freezer
